With support groups
proliferating and a new film documenting their hardships,observant homosexuals
are sending a simple message: It's OK to be Orthodox and gay.
"Jonathan" and "David"
are observant Jews. They belong to the same Orthodox synagogue in New York
City. From time to time, other synagogue members invite them to Shabbat lunch.
Periodically, Jonathan and David host a family for Shabbat in the Manhattan
apartment they share. Occasionally, someone who doesn't know them well will
try to interest one or the other in a nice Orthodox girl. After all, Jonathan
and David are single professionals in their early 40s—ripe material for a
shiddach (match). But both men always respond,
politely, that they are not interested.

schwulen Partnern bei ihrem Lebensgefährten und böse Verwandte, die die Chance
nutzen, solche Paare in Krisensituationen zu trennen. Im Umfeld der
rechtlichen Absicherung eingetragener gleichgeschlechtlicher Partnerschaften
schlägt in Deutschland eine Debatte hoch, die die USA schon vor Jahren
erreicht hatte.

overwhelming vote a resolution stating, in part, that “the relationship of a
Jewish, same gender couple is worthy of affirmation through appropriate Jewish
ritual.”

Parashat Hukkat

Der heutige Torah-Abschnitt heißt Hukkat und ist im Buch Numeri/ BaMidbar
19-22:2. Hukkah, das heißt Verordnung, und es geht in diesem Text um die
Verordnungen G‘ttes im Bezug auf rituelle Reinheit. Dies ist der berühmte
Abschnitt mit der roten Kuh und den Reinheitsritualen, zur deren Durchführung
die Asche einer roten Kuh benötigt wird. Ich werde nicht über die Rolle der
Kuh sprechen, aber ein wenig über rituelle Reinheit in der Torah und was das
vielleicht heute bedeuten kann.
